Choose an Android download
Use the Android package offered in the download area. If several builds are available, check the package notes for your device and Android release before downloading. A file ending in .apk is an Android installation package; it cannot install the Windows, macOS or iPhone app.
If Telegram is already installed, an update should normally preserve the existing account and local settings. A package signed by a different publisher may not update the existing app. Do not remove your current installation just to bypass a signature error: local data, including Secret Chats, can be lost.
Install the APK and sign in
Keep access to the phone number connected to your account. Telegram may deliver the verification code to a Telegram session you already use; follow the method shown by the sign-in screen.
- Download the APK and open it from your device’s downloads folder.
- If Android requests permission to install from this source, enable it only for the app opening the package, then complete installation.
- Open Telegram, enter your phone number with the correct country code, and enter the requested verification code.
- Enter your two-step verification password if enabled. Review notification and contact permissions, then disable the temporary installation permission if you no longer need it.
Fix installation and sign-in problems
For an incomplete download or a package parsing error, remove the failed download, check available storage, and download the file again. Confirm that the selected build supports your device. For an update conflict, compare the installed app’s source and signature with the new package.
If a sign-in code does not arrive, check the phone number and any existing Telegram sessions. Use the resend options only when Telegram offers them. Connection problems may come from the device, network or regional access restrictions; installing the app does not by itself resolve a blocked connection.
Verify the package and protect your account
Check the package origin and signing information. If a SHA-256 checksum is supplied by a source you trust, compare it with the downloaded file. A matching checksum proves that the file matches that reference; it does not independently establish who published it.
Never share verification codes or your two-step verification password. Review active sessions in Telegram settings and remove devices you do not recognize. Cloud chats can appear on other signed-in devices. Secret Chats are tied to the devices where they were created and do not sync as cloud chats.
