Frequently asked questions

Practical answers about downloads, sign-in and privacy.

What is Telegram?

Telegram is a messaging app for conversations, groups, channels and file sharing. Choose the mobile or desktop app for your device, then follow the installation and sign-in steps.

Can I use Telegram on a computer?

Telegram desktop supports Windows, macOS and Linux. Cloud chats can sync across signed-in devices; secret chats are device-specific and do not sync.

How do I sign in to Telegram desktop?

Open the app and follow its QR-code or phone-number sign-in instructions. If a verification code is sent to an existing Telegram session, check that session first. Never share your codes.

Are all Telegram chats end-to-end encrypted?

No. Cloud chats use client-server encryption. Secret chats use end-to-end encryption and are device-specific; they are not available in Telegram Desktop.

What if a download is unavailable?

The package for that platform has not been made available on this site yet. Return later or choose another available platform.

Can I install an APK on an iPhone?

No. APK files are for Android. On an iPhone or iPad, open the App Store on your device, search for Telegram Messenger and check the publisher before installing.
