Telegram for Windows

Use Telegram Desktop on your Windows computer to read cloud chats, send files and manage conversations with a keyboard. Choose the package that fits your computer before installing.

Open download center

Choose an installer or portable package

Check the download area for the Windows packages currently available. Match the package architecture and system requirements to your computer; you can inspect your system type in Windows settings. Do not assume that every build supports every Windows release.

An installer places the app on your computer and usually creates shortcuts. A portable package can be extracted and launched from a chosen folder when that option is available. Its folder can contain account-related local data, so keep it private and do not distribute an already signed-in portable copy.

Install Telegram Desktop and connect your account

A Telegram Desktop session gives access to your cloud chats after authentication. Keep your phone or another existing session nearby when signing in.

  1. Download the Windows package and inspect the file’s properties and publisher information before opening it.
  2. Run the installer and follow its prompts, or extract a portable archive into a folder you control and open the application.
  3. For QR login, open Telegram on your phone, find Devices in settings, choose the option to link a desktop device, and scan the code displayed by your computer.
  4. Alternatively, choose phone-number login and complete the verification steps shown. Enter your two-step verification password when requested.

Resolve download, startup and connection issues

If the installer cannot open, confirm that the file finished downloading and that its architecture matches your system. Download it again if it is incomplete. A managed computer may require an administrator to approve software installation.

If Windows displays a security warning, inspect the package and publisher information before deciding whether to proceed. Avoid disabling your security tools as a general fix. If the app opens but cannot connect, check network access and any firewall or proxy configuration. A QR code that expires can be refreshed on the sign-in screen.

Understand syncing and account security

Telegram Desktop synchronizes cloud chats across signed-in devices. It does not support Telegram Secret Chats, so those conversations will not appear here. Signing in on Windows does not transfer a Secret Chat from your phone.

Use a local app passcode on a shared computer and enable two-step verification for your account. Review Devices in Telegram settings after linking a computer. If a trusted reference checksum is provided, compare it with your downloaded package; a checksum identifies matching file content, while publisher and signature checks help assess its source.
